Training for Emergency Situations

In these uncertain times, community participation is critical to developing preparedness plans. The American Red Cross is challenging every individual and organization in our community to take five actions to make us all safer from disaster:

  • Make a Plan
  • Build a Kit
  • Get Trained
  • Volunteer
  • Give Blood

Launched by the American Red Cross, Together We Prepare is a nationwide initiative to help communities prepare for emergencies and disasters before they happen. Through this initiative, each person is challenged to take those five steps to help make their families, workplaces, schools and neighborhoods safer.

More information is available, and your local Red Cross would be happy to help you in your safety planning efforts by conducting a short presentation for your employees or talking with you about how the Red Cross can help you teach any of these actions to your employees, students or families.

To schedule an appointment to give blood, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE, or visit www.givelife.org for more information.

Five Actions for Emergency Preparedness

Make a plan. Make sure your home, school or workplace develops and practices an emergency plan an encourage employees to design a Family disaster plan. Planning ahead is the first step to a calmer and more assured disaster response.

Build a kit. What you have on hand when a disaster happens can make a big difference. Plan to store enough supplies for everyone in your household for at least three days.

Get trained. Learning simple first aid techniques can give you the skills and confidence to help anyone in your home, your neighborhood and at work.

Volunteer. Few Americans are untouched by the Red Cross services – all made possible by volunteers. Our communities need our help. There are so many needs and so many ways to serve.

Give Blood. Blood is needed in times of emergency, but the ongoing need is also great.
